Did you Say, “It's Snowing Again?!”

 By Vickie G. Paver

Spring has arrived! But the weather is not cooperating! Believe it or not, I'm sitting in my lawn chair with 3 inches of snow piled around my little toes, while I try to soak up some sun and think “spring”! The sun keeps peeking in and out of the clouds as if to say, “Nice day for hide and seek!” The robins have been here for 4 weeks already, and are singing cheerfully as I wonder what they have to sing about! I'm not sure I can take all this optimism in the middle of this snow! Without a doubt, it has been a long winter and I'm trying to somehow force spring weather to come by sitting out on the patio. In Pennsylvania they say we have 4 seasons, winter, winter, more winter, then spring.

All kidding aside, this has been the longest winter for this Pennsylvania resident in quite a few years! If I had my way, I'd most likely order sunshine---24/7. I'm sure the farmers would not appreciate a drought though! The point is: I'm sick of winter and want it to end! Some days I feel I can't stand the snow any more!

Sometimes when trials come into our lives, it is like a long winter. The long "winter" of our lives seems to take us over. We wonder if we will ever see the sun again. We get upset or exasperated about the trial or the length of the trial. “Sunny and warm” is the weather condition we want in our lives.

It is hard to imagine that there is any benefit or joy in winter! In Pennsylvania, we have those eternal optimists concerning winter. They can point out every good thing about winter! A few of the things on their list includes winter skiing in the Pocono's, tubing at the Peek, riding snowmobiles, winter festivals, sledding, snow shoeing in wooded winter wonderlands, and on top of all that they even have a list of snow activities for around your home! Pennsylvania even has a web site called, “Winter in Pennsylvania” http://www.winterinpa.com/   (where they invite you to unlock the treasures of winter!!!

In Pennsylvania, they say the important thing about winter is to be active, look for the good in winter, and make sure that you are properly prepared for outdoor activity. To be honest I agree with them, it is important to look at the good instead of the bad regarding winter and to be prepared. But how do we prepare for the "winters" or "storms" in our life? Even Christian have times of depression when the storms come. Consider these words in Peter 5:7, "Casting all your care upon Him (God) for He cares for you." Remember, spring is really just around the corner---it only seems that winter is eternal.

When you get snow, make a snowman or snowlady!
