Bethlehem

By Ruth Martin

A child was born in Bethlehem
      One calm Judean night,
When all the world lay hushed and still
      And silent stars shone bright.

Shepherds came to Bethlehem
      And wisemen from afar
Because they heard the angels sing
      And saw a wondrous star.

A child was born in Bethlehem,
      His cradle was a stall;
But heavenly choirs and shining light
      Proclaimed Him Lord of All.

So we still come to Bethlehem.
       Our joyous hearts we bring
To place before the cradle throne
      Of Jesus Christ, our King.
