Pandemonium Moments

By Vickie G. Paver

We all have those pandemonium moments in our life. You know, those wild chaotic episodes, some of which are embarrassing to say the least. Dignity is not what comes to mind when these things happen! For instance, tripping over your own feet and falling into a display at the grocery store, knocking over 2,000 pencils!!!! It is kind of hard to laugh in these situations (at least at the time it happens)! The bottom line is that we can react in several different ways. We can be upset, angry, and frustrated by these moments, or we can laugh and make the best of it. In the privacy of our own home, those moments aren't quite so bad. However, they still make us feel kind of silly. (grin) Do we laugh or do we get angry, frustrated or upset? I'd like to tell you about Abigail Baker, who seems to have many of these moments.

This particular “pandemonium moment” started with a Plop and a SPLASH! Unexpectedly, Abigail's neck was wet with toilet water!!! Sounds funny! I guess I better start at the beginning about this tale. It all started out when Abigail asked her granddaughter, Tatelyn, if she had to use the potty.

"Bug", her granddaughter's nickname (because she is so tiny), was standing by the toilet when Grandma Abigail took her diaper off to help her onto the potty. To Granny's horror, a soft surprise fell out of the diaper and onto the floor!!! "Bug" said, "Ohhh." She was as astonished as Grandma. Trying to make light of it, Grandma said, "It's okay, honey, that's what wipes are for." She picked it up (with the wipe) and plopped it into the toilet. But when it plopped, it splashed! Her granddaughter then pointed to grandma's neck and said, "Ucky." It was then that Grandma Abigail realized it was more than toilet water that splashed onto her neck. She was so grossed out! BUT, that is what wipes are for! She started laughing about the whole thing. This caused little Tatelyn to giggle. She then sat her little "Bug" on the toilet while she cleaned up. She was busy wiping away the "ucky" from her neck when she turned just in time to see her little granddaughter fall into the toilet! Grandma was laughing so hard she could scarcely get her precious, crying grandchild out of the toilet. At last, she was out! Grandma gave her a big hug, calmed her down and gave her a bath. All the while, Abigail was laughing. Soon, little "Bug" started laughing, too, and said, "Fuuu..nn..y," in a very shaky voice. In spite of this episode, Tatelyn and her Grandma had a good day.

Abigail demonstrated a small part of Christian living for her granddaughter. Sometimes God uses the foolish things of this world as a testimony of what He has done in people's lives. Others remember how we reacted in a certain situation. Our reactions can say much about us and the one we serve, our precious Lord Jesus Christ. What about your reactions? What do they say about you? We never know who may be watching. That someone may be a small grandchild or a crowd at the grocery store. Maybe such moments happen when we are by ourselves. It is good to remember that even if no one is around that how we react can set the tone for our day and still affect our witness to others. God bless you all with a sense of humor for your “pandemonium moments”.
